History

Initially formed in 1994 under the name Prism Health Networks, Palladian Health was the first New York State-based chiropractic IPA and was uniquely positioned to respond to State legislation, effective 1/1/98, mandating inclusion of chiropractic services as part of an individual’s covered health benefit. The earliest health plan clients for Palladian included BlueCross and BlueShield of Western New York and BlueShield of Northeastern New York and New York Health Insurance Plan (HIP). Both remain strong partners today and have expanded their relationship beyond chiropractic service offerings to include managing benefits related to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), fitness, and physical and occupational therapy services. From 2005 through 2007 Palladian’s client base grew substantially to include Univera Healthcare, Group Health Insurance (GHI), and Vytra.

In 2008, as a result of recent organizational changes and partnership with a private equity company, Palladian decided to move forward with a formal name change becoming Palladian Muscular Skeletal Health. Our mantra, Building Strength Through Knowledge, signifies the muscular skeletal expertise we bring to a partnership of service delivery resulting in the duality of strength for both patient health outcomes and health plan financial efficiency.

Although the costs of chiropractic and physical therapy managed by Palladian have been successfully contained, the overall costs of healthcare for spine and musculoskeletal pain conditions have increased dramatically – the costs of caring for spine and muscular skeletal conditions today are estimated to be in excess of $250 billion each year.

This unmet market led Palladian to develop a more comprehensive approach to improving both patient care and economic results for the management of spine and muscular skeletal health conditions.  In 2009 Palladian launched the nation’s first integrated chiropractic and physical and occupational therapy network solution with EmblemHealth. Over the last two years, in collaboration with several partners including Duke University, QualityMetric, and Milliman, Palladian developed a Coordinated Spine Care (CSC), an evidence based, web enabled, clinical decision support and education system that overlay’s existing programs for management of chiropractic, physical, occupational and speech therapy, CAM, and fitness services.

Palladian’s CSC program fosters collaboration between patients and various healthcare providers in an effort to provide timely information, education, and coordination of treatment to ensuring the appropriate provider is sought at the right time.  CSC addresses muscular skeletal medical conditions under an approach that educates decision-makers and stakeholders across an entire care cycle helping both the member and health plan achieve strength, both physically and financially, through clinical outcomes and cost savings.

Today Palladian provides an array of muscular skeletal health services to nearly 20 major health plans in the United States with approximately 6 million members and continues to deliver optimal outcomes and predictable results through the development of clinically superior muscular skeletal services, collaborative partnerships, ongoing research, innovation, advocacy and operational excellence – improving patient outcomes, providing value-added services to providers and delivering dramatic savings to our healthplan partners.
